The Globe and Mail has published an article reviewing many of the key issues discussed by Torys lawyers in our publication Capital Markets Mid-Year Report 2015. Below is an excerpt of the article.
According to the Bay Street law firm’s Capital Markets Mid-Year Report, in the first quarter of this year there were 214 offerings completed, raising a total of $83-billion. In the first quarter of 2014, there were more offerings, at 277, but fewer dollars raised at $71-billion.
Torys says the market confidence is dampened by memories of the 2008 financial crisis and because of increased attention from capital markets regulators. In the U.S., the law firm says, new rules brought in in 2013 are now having a measurable impact on leveraged lending, affecting U.S. debt markets.
