In September, Torys announced its partnership with the University of Calgary in an innovative new law school program, The Torys LLP Excellence in Business Skills for Lawyers. The course, which began this fall, provides business fundamentals to law students and has been featured in an article for the Calgary Law Review. Read below for an excerpt of the article.
Ian Holloway, QC, the U of C's dean of law, says the new course responds to a fairly constant refrain from businesspeople.
"Business leaders tell us, 'I already know my problem: I need a solution.' That's where a lot of young lawyers falter," Holloway says. The new course is aimed at giving U of C law grads a clear advantage in providing comprehensive solutions to business problems, he says.
Necessary as the course would appear, Holloway says no other law school in Canada has a similar offering. Tingle adds the course couldn't be offered without Torys' support to bring in top-notch lecturers.
