Energy lawyers are detecting various trends in the sector: Asian investors are becoming important; oil prices are hot; gas prices are languishing; private equity is increasingly important; technology is changing the way that energy companies unlock resources; and innovative capital structures are emerging.
Scott Cochlan says that if gas prices remain low, it could force distressed M&A, while Ron Deyholos says the gas pricing environment creates opportunities: "If you're a larger player with cash resources who can take a longer-term view, this would be a good time to buy."
