Chambers Global 2011 names four of Torys' restructuring and insolvency lawyers as outstanding in Canada

March 21, 2011

Torys' restructuring and insolvency practitioners are a "well-coordinated, seamless team" with "an excellent general corporate profile that gives it access to a diverse client base. The team is also supported by an experienced bankruptcy group in New York."

The group is recognized for its work on behalf of the investment community. It recently represented Fairfax Financial Holdings as DIP lender and creditor in the Abitibi mandate. It is also applauded for its work on two significant retainers in connection with GM's high-profile restructuring.

  • Tony DeMarinis manages the group with New York partner William Gray. Tony is "a solutions-based guy, which is always key in this industry." He was involved in the majority of the team's key matters over the past year.
  • Scott Bomhof participated in both GM files and acted for Nokia on its bid for the LTE business of Nortel.
  • David Bish is "a great guy with strong technical skills."
  • Michael Rotsztain is a "very solid, knowledgeable guy." Michael and Tony worked together in advising Brookfield Asset Management in Fraser Papers' CCAA proceedings.
