Scott Bomhof, Tony DeMarinis and Michael Rotsztain are among Canada's top restructuring and insolvency lawyers in Chambers & Partners' Chambers Global: World’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The Client’s Guide 2009.

An outfit equipped to handle the transactional side of insolvency matters, particularly restructuring and recapitalisation, Torys also provides advice on balance-sheet refinancings and capital-raisings. Its "incredibly good list of clients" primarily includes debtors and investment funds. With an office in New York, the group is currently focused on developing its bankruptcy business within the U.S. and Canadian financial and investment community.

  • Scott Bomhof represents "a bright future for the practice," with "a bright mind, a broad skill set, and a solution-focused approach." He is advising National Bank of Canada and National Bank Financial on the ABCP matter.
  • Tony DeMarinis has "a big picture perspective" and offers strategic advice. He recently acted for Fairfax Financial Holdings in its C$350 million debt investment in AbitibiBowater.
  • Michael Rotsztain is "careful and knowledgeable," offering traditional insolvency and overall strategy advice.
