Founded in 1995 by Canadian child rights activist Craig Kielburger (brother of Marc), Free the Children is the world's largest network of children helping children to develop as socially conscious global citizens and to become agents of change through domestic empowerment programs and leadership training.
More than one million youth are involved in Free the Children's programs in 45 countries, and the organization has formed successful partnerships with leading school boards and Oprah's Angel Network. The organization has received the World's Children's Prize for the Rights of the Child (also known as the Children's Nobel Prize) and the Human Rights Award from the World Association of Non-Governmental Organizations. Free the Children's primary goals are to liberate children from poverty and exploitation, and from the notion that they are powerless to affect positive change in the world.
Marc Kielburger's letter was as follows:
On behalf of myself, Craig and the entire Free the Children family, we wanted to sincerely thank you for all the remarkable support of Torys and your amazing team and colleagues.
Thank you as well for the recent and very generous support of Free the Children. When we heard the news, we were blown away.
As you know, we have had the opportunity to work with Sharon Geraghty, Michael Akkawi, Harris Kaplan and others from Torys on our recent legal needs. They have been simply amazing, patient, passionate and brilliant, all at the same time.
Whether it be helping with trademarks of Free the Children in Canada or the U.S.A., or helping us structure a complex agreement with funders in California, they have treated us as clients and friends.
We cannot thank you enough and everyone at Torys. You are all making a huge contribution in our work, helping to make the world a more just and humane place for children.
If we can ever be of assistance in any way, whether it be a speech or presentation to your team or event for the children of your employees, we would be honored to do so as a small token of our thanks.
