U.S.-style merger reviews will add to the regulatory burden in Canada, says Jay Holsten in Globe and Mail editorial

If the media have it right, says Jay Holsten, Industry Minister Jim Prentice is considering changes to the Competition Act that would introduce a U.S.-style merger review process in Canada. These changes should trigger alarms in the Canadian business community. If implemented, they will add significantly to the regulatory burden and cost of merger reviews in Canada.
