Legal Media Group/Euromoney's IFLR1000 has published its 2008 rankings and analysis of the best financial law firms operating in more than 100 markets worldwide. In the guide, Torys ranks among the top firms in Canada in the following areas, along with several practitioners in each area:

Banking

Clients like RBC, Bank of Nova Scotia, and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan serve as evidence of Torys' preferred status in the market. Blair Keefe is particularly regarded for his regulatory expertise and steady relationships with many of these premier clients. Torys' cross-border regulatory expertise and expanding insurance practice are also of note.

  • Alinda Capital Partners in its C$1.74 billion financing acquisition of UE Waterheater Income Fund (the deal's structure included the creation of a bridge facility, the refinancing of an existing bridge facility, and private placements of notes in Canada and the United States)
  • Great-West Life Assurance Co. in the C$4.6 billion acquisition by Great-West Lifeco of Putnam Investments Trust from Marsh & McLennan
  • Triad Guaranty Insurance and National Mortgage Guaranty Insurance in the incorporation of the two companies, in their offering of mortgage-guarantee insurance throughout Canada, and in subsequent filings between the insurance provider and CMHC
