Torys helps launch Greening Greater Toronto initiative

June 24, 2008

Torys is proud to be a partner in today's launch of Greening Greater Toronto, a Toronto City Summit Alliance (TCSA) initiative.

The TCSA, which created Greening Greater Toronto to address the city's environmental problems and improve its performance in this area, is a coalition of Toronto region civic leaders, including more than 100 partners from corporations, industry, government and non-profit organizations. The coalition's ultimate goal is to make Toronto the greenest city in North America by encouraging participation by all sectors, including business, non-profit, governmental, trade union and individual. Greening Greater Toronto's five primary goals are as follows:

  • reduction of carbon/greenhouse gas emissions
  • clean air
  • clean water
  • reduction and effective management of waste
  • sustainable land use and expanded green space

Torys is providing pro bono advice on the establishment of the Domestic Emissions Reduction Fund, a multimillion-dollar fund that will allow corporations that are already reducing greenhouse gas emissions internally to contribute to additional emission reductions by funding non-profit and public sector projects to reduce greenhouse gases.
