There are a number of factors driving the trend of U.S. private equity shops taking Canadian companies private, says Michael Amm. Firstly, U.S. private equity shops have access to vast pools of capital. Secondly, valuations in Canada are reasonable, while interest rates continue to be low. Also, going private often enables a company to take a longer-term strategic direction that is more satisfying to investors.
