Torys is proud to have acted as intellectual property, governance and commercialization counsel to Unity Health to secure $100 million in federal funding to support the expansion of its VITAL platform across Canada as part of the Government of Canada’s national AI strategy.
VITAL is a landmark multi-provincial health data and artificial intelligence research platform based at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, the central acute-care hub within Unity Health's network. VITAL is a pan-Canadian health data platform designed to connect near real-time clinical data from hospitals across multiple provinces, beginning with 160 hospitals in Alberta, Ontario and Québec. The platform will allow the data to remain within the authority of the participating province while providing the critical connections so the data may be analyzed together enabling researchers to improve care and clinical trials.
The Torys team consisted of Eileen McMahon, Edward Fan and Michele Clairzio. Unity Health is a hospital network in Toronto, Canada which includes St. Michael’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Centre, and Providence Healthcare.
