We are thrilled to share that Torys has received two awards at this year’s Canadian Law Awards, recognizing our lawyers’ sophisticated counsel in a landmark Supreme Court case and our firm’s commitment to continuous innovation of client service and offerings.
The firm’s Litigation practice was recognized as the Commercial Litigation Team of the Year for its role as counsel to KSV Advisory Inc. in the Supreme Court of Canada case Aquino v. Bondfield Construction Co., 2024 SCC 31. The Torys team consisted of Jeremy Opolsky, Scott Bomhof, and Alex Bogach. The Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling in Aquino is now the leading decision on the corporate attribution doctrine in Canada and the “transfer at undervalue” provisions under section 96 of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA). You can read more about this landmark decision here.
Torys’ Knowledge and Innovation team also received the award for Best Use of Technology in a Law Firm for the second consecutive year. Led by Chief Knowledge and Innovation Officer Sukesh Kamra and Director of Innovation Dustin Paterson, Torys worked collaboratively with our client to create the Side Letter Management Product, a state-of-the-art private equity legal data management product that fundamentally alters the way business critical legal information is managed and maintained by our client. Not only does the product offer significant value to our client, but it also advances Torys’ culture of innovation, enabling us to diversify our client offerings.
