Volunteering at the Pro Bono Free Legal Advice Hotline
A team of Torys lawyers have put up their hands to volunteer their time in the Pro Bono Ontario Free Legal Advice Hotline, helping members of the public with their everyday civil legal problems.
Eighteen Torys lawyers devoted their time in the call centre in various stints throughout the week of August 21; Torys lawyers volunteered in the call centre along with lawyers from CIBC.
Torys partner Linda Plumpton said working in the call centre was a rewarding experience.
“It’s always really important to give back to the community through volunteering,” Linda said.
Senior associate Sarah Whitmore also volunteered her time during the week and was glad she was able to help those who needed legal advice.
“It’s amazing how many people we were able to help with their everyday legal problems and it’s nice to be able to give them some guidance.”
The Pro Bono Ontario hotline offers free legal advice for up to 30 minutes for qualifying matters. Currently, the hotline can help with civil procedure, employment, housing, consumer issues such as consumer debt and consumer protection, and corporate law for charities, non-profits and small businesses.
