Stephanie Stimpson Helps Introduce Michelle Obama as a "Role Model" and "Brilliant Lawyer"
Partner Stephanie Stimpson participated in the opening remarks for former first lady of the United States Michelle Obama, who spoke to a sold out crowd of 6,000 at the Calgary Stampede Corral. Stephanie commended Obama on her accomplishments as “a brilliant lawyer,” and her contributions to her community.
“It is an understatement to say her achievements are inspiring to us,” Stephanie told the audience on the night.
She also pointed out how Obama’s influence on her community as “a role model for women and a proponent for healthy families, service members and education” which demonstrates “the incredible value she places on helping others.”
As Stephanie noted, at Torys we feel a “deep responsibility to our communities and strive to make positive change in our society”—a ideology Michelle Obama embodies.
Obama engaged with the audience in Calgary, walking them through her early life in Chicago and poking fun at her husband. However, she also made sure to touch on powerful topics, encouraging young women to focus on education, advising children to face adversity by “blocking out negativity” and discussing when the U.S. will be ready to elect a woman president.
It was an honour to have Stephanie participate in this inspiring conversation with Obama in Calgary in March.
