Molly Reynolds Discusses Mitigating PMS Cyber Attacks
Senior associate Molly Reynolds has spoken with Hotelier magazine about what businesses should consider when it comes to protecting the guest data collected in its Property Management System (PMS).
The article speaks about the important role a PMS plays in the smooth running of a hotel, but noted it was the business’s responsibility to protect the information it collects.
“Canadian organizations are responsible for protecting information. This includes the personal information of employees and guests, ” Molly said.
Molly said the jurisdiction in which guest’s information is held should also be a consideration, and particular attention should be paid when that is outside of Canada. She also told the publication that operators “can’t contract out of a country’s laws, the laws of a specific country apply.”
“Where the information is stored and its circumstances should be considered to determine if it will receive the same level of protection as it would in Canada,” she said.
