Quinte Consolidated Courthouse
Torys acted as counsel to Balfour Beatty as a shortlisted proponent for the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse PPP project to design, build, finance and maintain a new courthouse in Belleville, Ontario.
The new multi-storey facility consolidated the Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice court facilities, which previously operated in four court locations, three in Belleville and one in Trenton.
Designed and built to meet the Canada Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver standards, green features of the new building include
- increased indoor air quality
- large amounts of glass to create natural lighting for a variety of work areas and a number of courtrooms
- aggressive energy use reductions
- a high-quality indoor environment achieved through building material selection as well as ongoing green housekeeping practices
