
Tristan’s practice focuses on commercial law in the areas of commercial real estate, transit and energy projects and corporate finance. He frequently acts on behalf of private equity funds, public REITs, pension funds, developers and asset managers on their most complex joint ventures, single-asset or portfolio acquisitions and dispositions, corporate reorganizations and restructurings, and project development and construction matters. Tristan has considerable experience advising governmental authorities in connection with the development and delivery of transit infrastructure as part of transit-oriented mixed-use developments. Tristan also acts for both borrowers and lenders on secured and unsecured single-lender and syndicated acquisition, project/construction and long-term financings.
Beyond his transactional practice, working in concert with the firm’s litigation group, Tristan regularly advises institutional investors on partner disputes arising under joint venture agreements and under binding transaction agreements and vendor-take-back mortgages.
Prior to joining Torys, Tristan completed a legal internship at the Trade Law Bureau of Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa, focusing on trade remedies disputes.
Tristan volunteers as a mentor with the Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS) program, a high school program that uses legal education as a tool to assist students to succeed in school and become engaged and active citizens.
During law school, Tristan was a teaching assistant and fellow for the Joint Queen’s-University of Ottawa International Trade Law Practicum, a program that is part of the global TradeLab network of legal practica providing pro bono trade and investment law support to developing countries and non-governmental organizations.
Tristan volunteered with Suits His Style, an Ottawa-based charity that supports the employment opportunities of men in need by providing them professional attire.
