Overview

Laurie's practice focuses on corporate law, with an emphasis on private equity and mergers and acquisitions. She has experience advising a wide variety of private equity firms, pension plans and strategic investors in domestic and international investments (direct and co-investments), mergers and acquisitions and divestiture transactions. Laurie advises clients regarding both private and public company targets in various industries, including regularly acting for one or more clients in consortium or partnership M&A transactions.

Laurie frequently supports clients engaged in shareholder arrangements and joint ventures, as well as bankruptcy-related asset sales and corporate reorganizations. She has also advised clients on a broad range of corporate, securities, governance and Canadian pension fund regulatory matters.

Laurie is called to the bar in Ontario and New York and has extensive experience in cross-border transactions having worked several years at a prominent New York law firm and Paris law firm.

Professional Involvement

Before joining Torys, Laurie was a corporate associate at a New York law firm where she worked on complex cross-border transactions. She also completed a secondment at a Paris law firm where she gained experience in European law and worked on international M&A transactions. Laurie is a member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Women in Private Equity where she plays a role in mentoring, continuing education and networking with other women in the industry.
