Diverse skills and perspectives are the building blocks of the best ideas and most sophisticated thinking. Across our culture and operations, we pursue tangible and meaningful ways to advance diversity, equity and inclusion.

To that end, Torys is pleased to invite you to our 1L Scholar Connect workshop. The Torys 1L Scholar Connect workshop will provide law students from equity-seeking communities with programming focused on professional development, networking and mentorship.

This immersive, interactive workshop will provide candidates with an opportunity to acquire invaluable insight into the intricacies of law, networking, recruiting and the firm.

Torys 1L Scholars will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in interactive sessions led by Torys lawyers and students, and gain insight into life in private practice at a full service firm
  • Learn best practices from industry experts that will help you thrive in law school, recruiting, and the corporate legal environment
  • Network with our lawyers, students, and fellow Torys Scholars
  • Receive ongoing mentoring and career development support
  • Gain a familiarity with the people and culture at Torys

To promote access and inclusion, Torys will provide one night’s accommodation in Toronto to successful candidates. Please note that this workshop will be held in English only.

Eligibility criteria

If you self-identify as an equity-seeking candidate, are currently enrolled in your first year of a JD or JD/MBA program at a Canadian law school, and are considering a career in corporate law, you are encouraged to apply.

Equity-seeking communities may include:

  • Indigenous communities
  • Members with racial or ethnic backgrounds
  • Persons with disability
  • Members of the LGBTQ2S+ communities

Application process

To be considered for the Torys 1L Scholar Connect workshop, please complete and submit an application. Applications are due by Friday, March 8, 2024.  

Applicants will need to provide the following:

  • Resume
  • Cover letter
  • Undergraduate transcript
  • Law school transcript
