Risks and opportunities for the automotive sector

Part of the “Tariffs and trade: Canada-U.S. issues” series

Join Torys’ Canadian and New York teams for discussions on the legal and business ramifications of tariffs and other cross-border policy developments.

Risks and opportunities for the automotive sector

The automotive sector has been the target of tariffs and retaliatory tariffs on both sides of the US-Canada border. President Trump has also indicated expressly that one of his goals is to move more automotive manufacturing within U.S. borders. The automotive sector therefore finds itself at the centre of current trade tensions between the two countries, and may be the canary in the coal mine for Canadian businesses generally as they navigate new trade realties.  This session will focus on explaining the current state of affairs in the industry as well as legal risks and opportunities for sector participants that are of broader application to other sectors of the economy that face similarly challenged environments.

This session will be presented in English.
