Gordie Howe International Bridge

The C$5.7 billion cross-border project is being financed under a public-private partnership with Bridging North America, the successful private partner selected to deliver the project components. Primary components of the project include

• a new 2.5 km (1.5 mile) six-lane bridge over the Detroit River
• Canadian port of entry infrastructure, including 22 primary inspection lanes and 16 toll booths supporting inbound and outbound passenger and commercial vehicle traffic
• US port of entry infrastructure, including 36 primary inspection lanes supporting inbound and outbound passenger and commercial vehicle traffic
• connecting roads to existing highways, including the Michigan Interchange involving local improvement and new primary connecting ramps to and from the US port of entry

The Canadian and US ports of entry and the bridge will be developed under a design, build, finance, operate and maintain contract between Bridging North America and the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority. The Michigan Interchange will be delivered under a separate design, build and finance contract with the State of Michigan

Currently under construction, the crossing is expected to be in service by the end of 2024. Once finished, the bridge will be among the top five longest bridges in North America and one of the largest ports of entries (on either side) in North America.
