K2 Wind Power Project
Torys acted as counsel to Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ and Mizuho Corporate Bank as the lead lenders in the C$850 million financing of the 270 MW K2 Wind Power Project in Huron County, Ontario developed by Pattern Energy Group LP, Samsung Renewable Energy, Inc. and Capital Power Corporation.
Comprised of 140 Siemens 2.3 MW turbines, the facility operates under a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Independent Electricity System Operator.
Construction on the project began March 24, 2014 and at the time it commenced commercial operations in June 2015, it was one of Canada’s largest wind-power.
On March 20, 2014, K2 Wind Ontario, a limited partnership between Samsung Renewable Energy Inc., Pattern Energy Group LP and Capital Power Corporation, completed its C$850 million (US$734.7 million) financing to develop the K2 Wind Power Project (K2 Wind), a 270 megawatt (MW) wind power project located in Goderich, Ontario.
The financing was secured through a 15-bank syndicate led by Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd., Union Bank and Mizuho Corporate Bank, Ltd. and was structured as a construction loan that will convert to long-term operational debt.
