Prince Wind Farm
The first commercial wind farm in Northern Ontario, the Prince Wind Farm has a combined total of 126 wind turbine generators at both Prince I and Prince II with a combined installed capacity of 189 MW.
- Prince I (phase I), with 66 GE wind turbines and 99 MW of power generation capacity, achieved commercial operation on September 21, 2006
- Prince II (phase II), with 60 GE wind turbines and 90 MW of power generation capacity, achieved commercial operation on November 19 2006.
On July 21, 2006, Brookfield Power Wind Prince LP, a subsidiary of Brookfield Power Inc., completed a C$300 million construction facility for the Prince I and Prince II wind generating facilities. The partnership (or a predecessor) entered into a 20-year renewable energy supply contract with Ontario Power Authority for each project. The projects will be constructed in part by S&C Electric Canada Ltd. and in part by Mortenson Canada Corporation.
The financing was provided by a syndicate of lenders led by Royal Bank of Canada (also the administrative agent) and The Bank of Nova Scotia (also the syndication agent). Royal Bank of Canada and Scotia Capital were the co-lead underwriters.
