Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Pedestrian Tunnel
Torys acted for the lenders to Elite Tunnel Group (Macquarie Capital), a shortlisted proponent for the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Pedestrian Tunnel PPP project to design, build, finance and maintain a new pedestrian tunnel in Toronto, Ontario.
Constructed within the bedrock 100 feet beneath the surface of Lake Ontario, the tunnel starts on the mainland and runs 853-foot across the Western Gap to the island airport and features four automated sidewalks (two north and two south), which move at a speed of 2.3 km per hour.
The Billy Bishop Airport Pedestrian Tunnel is the first land-link between Toronto's mainland and the island.
Torys acted as counsel with a team that included Jonathan Weisz and Tara Mackay.
