Grace Pereira’s practice focuses on advising clients on various tax issues, including in the context of corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, financings, securities issuances and investment funds. 

In her taxation of investment funds practice, Grace advises both funds, including traditional and corporate fund structures, and their managers. She has been involved in structuring new products and issuances, restructurings, acquisitions, wind-ups and registered plans.

In her taxation of executive compensation practice, Grace is involved in all aspects of the design and implementation of tax-effective executive compensation plans for public and private sector employers, including stock option plans, share appreciation rights, share bonus and share purchase plans, restricted share unit (RSU) plans, deferred share unit (DSU) plans, and performance based medium and long-term incentive plans.

Grace also advises taxpayers in disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and provincial taxation authorities, including acting for taxpayers in respect of transfer pricing disputes with the CRA.

Professional Involvement

Before joining Torys, Grace practised at another major Canadian law firm. Grace was an instructor of the Advanced Taxation Course at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law for the 2005 and 2006 winter terms.
