Conor McCourt is a co-chair of Torys' Intellectual Property Practice. He has more than 30 years of experience practising in all areas of intellectual property, particularly in the chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical patent, trademark and regulatory fields. Conor manages intellectual property-related aspects of major business transactions and engages in the acquisition, licensing and strategic management of intellectual property assets. Conor has extensive expertise, at both the federal and provincial levels, in pharmaceutical market access including pricing. Conor has attended the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board for numerous voluntary compliance undertaking (VCU) negotiations.
Conor regularly works with many of the top pharmaceutical companies in Canada and the United States. His work spans a wide range of issues. For example, Conor has been involved with product clearances (freedom to operate); he has advised on a patent and trademark portfolio acquisition strategy for a key product in the pharmaceutical marketplace; he has been involved in the regulation of product pricing in the pharmaceutical industry and litigation involving the patent/health regulatory interface; he has undertaken litigation proceedings based on injurious falsehood and trade libel relating to a major pharmaceutical product.
Conor is a member of Torys' Payments and Cards Group and has been involved in the brand- and trademark-related aspects of a number of significant transactions in the payments and cards area.
In addition to his qualifications as a lawyer, Conor is a registered patent and trademark agent in the United States and Canada.
