Alberta Broadband Networks Project
Torys acted as counsel to the lenders to Meridiam for the C$219 million Alberta Broadband Networks project to design, build, finance, operate, maintain and lease a fibre-optic broadband network in central Alberta.
Through a phased approach, Meridiam will build a comprehensive high-speed fiber-optic network that will service more than 41,000 premises and provide modern digital infrastructure to nearly 92,000 residents in communities around the Edmonton metropolitan area.
On October 3, 2022, Meridiam announced that it reached financial close in connection with the project.
As part of a C$219 million total investment, Meridiam secured one of the first non-recourse project finance facilities for a revenue-risk, greenfield fibre development in North America.
Further information can be found on Meridiam’s website.
The Torys team was led by Josh Van Deurzen and that included Emily Stewart, Patrick Kanopoulos and Brianne Paulin (projects).
