St. Joseph Wind Farm
Torys acted as counsel to Mitsubishi UFJ Financial and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking as the lenders in the C$245 million project financing of the 138 MW St. Joseph Wind Farm in southern Manitoba owned by Pattern Energy Group LP.
One of two large-scale wind farms in Manitoba, and its largest to date, the farm is spread over 30,000 acres of privately-owned agricultural land in the rural municipalities of Montcalm and Rhineland. Using 60 Siemens Gamesa SWT-2.3-101 2.3 MW turbines, the project generates enough electricity to support the needs of roughly 120,000 Canadians (about 50,000 households).
Construction of the project started in April 2010 and it achieved commercial operation in March 2011. All of the power generated by the project is sold to Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board under a 27-year power purchase agreement.
Further information on the project can be found on Pattern Energy’s website.
Torys acted as counsel with a team that included Scott Kraag, Jonathan Weisz, Milosz Zemanek, Yinka Olusoga, Selam Lyons and Megan Kinsella (project financing) and Tyson Dyck (environmental).
