IPIC 2026 Annual Conference

Partners Yael Bienenstock and Andrew Shaughnessy and counsel Alexandra Peterson will speak at the IPIC 2026 Annual Conference taking place September 16-18 in Ottawa. The conference will bring together intellectual property (IP) professionals from private practice, industry, government, and the judiciary to discuss emerging issues, trends, and developments shaping the IP landscape in Canada.

Andrew will co-lead the workshop “Strut Your Stuff: Oral Advocacy Skills for IP Practitioners” on September 16 at 2:00 p.m. The workshop will explore oral advocacy techniques through a mock trademark proceeding, providing participants with the opportunity to present arguments and receive feedback from senior practitioners.

Alexandra will speak on the panel “Jurisdiction and Territoriality of IP Rights and Remedies in Canada” on September 17 at 11:15 a.m. The panel will examine the territorial scope of IP rights, jurisdictional issues, and relief available in Canadian courts through a review of recent cases in copyright, trademark, and patent law.

Yael will moderate the panel “Patents Without Borders: Comparative Insights about International Patent Law” on September 17 at 3:00 p.m. The panel will examine recent developments in patent law across multiple jurisdictions and the corresponding implications for advising clients on Canadian and international IP strategies.
