Summer Program

We provide our summer students with as thorough an exposure to the practice of law as the summer months allow. Your work will be similar to that of an articling student. We will arrange for you to work with as many lawyers in as many practice areas as possible or we will help you focus on your specific areas of interest.

Summer students receive a salary competitive with that of students at other large Toronto firms, in addition to a summer fitness club membership.

Some of our students spend half the summer at the firm and the other half doing legal work for a public interest organization – either locally or internationally – legal research for a professor at a Canadian law school or at another non-Canadian based law firm. If you are interested in such an arrangement, you are welcome to approach us with a specific proposal after being hired. Torys will pay the full summer salary to students who participate in a preapproved arrangement or program.
