Sunny has been involved in representing

• TD Bank on strategic financial sector investments in the United States, particularly distressed asset acquisitions, including its acquisition of The South Financial Group
• Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board and a strategic partner on the acquisition of AIG’s Canadian mortgage insurance business
• Fairfax Financial Holdings and Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) in their purchase of preferred units of Canadian Western Bank through a C$135 million private placement
• TD Bank on the collaborative spinout transaction of TD Capital Private Equity Investors, the private equity fund of funds and co-investment arm of TD Bank Financial Group, to become Northleaf Capital Partners

Sunny participated in the 2007 Ontario Business Mission to India, led by the province’s Premier, and the 2005 Canada Trade Mission to India, led by the federal Minister of International Trade. Sunny is active in speaking on the topic of legal risks relating to transactions involving Indian and Canadian companies.

In 2003, Sunny was seconded to Scotiabank’s legal department, where he worked primarily with the international group. Before joining Torys, Sunny worked in the Singapore office of the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in the summer of 2001. As part of his legal studies, Sunny worked in British Columbia with the provincial government and a major energy and utility company.
