Practice

Gillian Dingle's civil litigation practice includes a focus on corporate/commercial, broker/dealer and securities litigation. She provides legal advice to market participants on compliance and regulatory matters, as well as representation in civil and regulatory proceedings and investigations conducted by the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada and the Ontario Securities Commission. Gillian has appeared as counsel in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Cases

Gillian has recently been involved in representing

a major Canadian financial institution in defence of a regulatory investigation and a class action proceeding involving issues of continuous disclosure
a number of major institutional brokerage houses in the defence of claims of discretionary or unauthorized trading, suitability of investments, and liability for the alleged misconduct of the individual registrants
an ethanol company in an arbitration involving allegations of breach of contract and contractual good faith duties
a number of income trusts in their conversions to corporations by way of plan of arrangement
a commercial real estate management company in a dispute involving issues of shareholder oppression
a financial industry association intervening in an appeal from a decision of the Tax Court of Canada

Professional Involvement

Before joining Torys, Gillian worked as a research assistant to the National Director of Legal Policy for MADD Canada. Gillian was seconded to the legal department of CIBC for a six-month period in 2008.
