Before joining Torys, Sumeet worked as a technology transfer officer for a large Canadian research university and its affiliated health centres. During this time, Sumeet managed the IP and commercialization of invention disclosures, which ranged from medical and surgical devices to novel drug targets.
Sumeet has also worked with a large aerospace engineering and manufacturing company in the United Kingdom, contributing to the development of its IP management and commercialization strategies.
In 2008, Sumeet was on secondment in South Africa with the South African Department of Science and Technology, where he assisted in the drafting and implementation of legislation that sets out the rights related to IP generated from publicly-funded research institutions.
