RES Canada and Enbridge to develop 99 MW Greenwich Wind Energy Project

Torys represented RES Canada with a team that included Krista Hill, Allen Yi, Graham Erion, Stephanie Rogoza and Charmaine Craig (M&A); Sabrina Gherbaz (real estate); John Tobin and Richard Johnson (tax); Jonathan Weisz and Valerie Helbronner (energy); and Dennis Mahony and Michael Fortier (environmental).

On March 31, 2010, Enbridge Inc. (TSX, NYSE: ENB) and Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc. (RES Canada), an affiliate of RES Americas, announced their agreement to construct, own and operate a 99 MW wind energy project on the northern shore of Lake Superior, Ontario.

The Greenwich Wind Energy Project is a limited partnership that is jointly owned by Enbridge and RES Canada. Investment in the project by both parties is approximately C$275 million and Enbridge has a majority interest. RES Canada will construct the project under contract to the partnership.

The project, which will deliver energy to the Ontario Power Authority under a Renewable Energy Supply III 20-year power purchase agreement, is expected to reach substantial completion in late 2011.

RES Americas, headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado, develops, constructs, owns and operates energy projects across the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. RES Canada, founded in 2003 and based in Montreal, develops energy projects in most Canadian provinces and is a member of the Saint-Laurent Energies consortium.

Enbridge is an energy and natural gas distributor with distribution services in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and New York. It operates the world's longest crude oil and liquids transportation system.
