Environmental, Health and Safety

Torys consistently receives Global Environment Super League Rankings' highest rating.

Torys' Environmental, Health and Safety Practice Group has been consistently rated over the years as one of Canada’s leading practices, including by the Practical Law Company as one of only three environmental groups in Canada to receive the highest ranking in its Global Environment Super League Rankings list of the world’s best environmental practices. The group has also been repeatedly recognized in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory with the highest ranking of most frequently recommended.

The practice is international in scope, with a particular focus on the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Our lawyers are regularly involved in significant corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, securities and debt financings; and in environmental litigation and dispute resolution, including environmental assessments, toxic torts, Superfund cases, and citizen-suit and criminal defense matters.

We assist our clients globally to maintain compliance by advising them of recent and anticipated legal developments. We also help clients obtain regulatory approvals, and have developed and assisted in the implementation of environmental management systems.

We serve clients in many commercial, financial and industrial sectors, including energy, waste management, recycling, banking, insurance, mining, forestry, manufacturing, petro-chemical, steel, food processing and technology. We work closely with our Real Estate Practice and environmental consultants to facilitate the investigation, remediation and development of contaminated sites, including the development of brownfield sites.
