Torys LLP is combining technology with trendiness by launching what it says is the first law firm iPhone application in Canada.
Torys introduced the free application this month. iPhone users can download it to read news from the firm, publications on legal issues and profiles of the firm's lawyers. It will also provide GPS-enhanced real-time directions to the firm's Toronto and New York offices. U.S.-based 80/20 Group LLC designed the application.
Torys' chief marketing officer Stuart Wood says the application has a particular focus on the firm's clients. "We don't really have any expectations that this will lead to new business," he says, noting that the application was downloaded 150 times in the first three days. "We expect there will be some students who will download it because of their familiarity with the technology, but it's primarily focused on our clients and their interests in the firm."
Stuart says that Torys is eager to try new technologies and that if people end up using the application, the firm will invest more into it.
So far, the application has received good reviews. For example, Michael Rabinovici, senior vice president for strategic initiatives at AR Communications Inc., says, "Torys has done a nice job with their application. It's well thought [out], smooth and elegant."
