Do you have what it takes to work in an electronically enhanced courtroom? Wonder no more – just take "Tom's test". If you can do the following, Ontario Superior Court Justice Thomas Granger says you have all the skills you need to conduct a paperless electronic trial:
- turn on a computer and monitor
- use a mouse, including the mouse's scroll wheel
- open a program
- "drag and drop" or "copy and paste" text from a document that is on a CD into a word processing file on your computer
"Several things make you want an electronic trial," says David Outerbridge. These items include document management, demonstration of evidence and the ability to accommodate remote witnesses with videoconferencing tools.
