Every five years, Global Competition Review (GCR) conducts a survey to find the world’s leading 40 competition lawyers under the age of 40. In GCR's May 2008 edition, Omar Wakil is among the world’s leading young competition lawyers—one of more than 1,000 nominated practitioners and one of just four listed from Canada.
Omar's practice is focused on competition and foreign investment review. "The challenge of practising practical law in an often fast-paced business environment is a draw," he says. "Working on multijurisdictional transactions and investigations also appeals."
When asked about competition trends in Canada, Omar says, "Private enforcement is on the rise in Canada, and I think the litigation side of the practice will continue to grow in importance. I am not convinced that the trend is a completely positive one, but it makes for interesting times and is allowing Canadian practitioners to hone new skills."
