Frank Iacobucci honoured at Sikh Centennial Foundation Annual Gala

The Honourable Frank Iacobucci will be among the honourees at the Sikh Centennial Foundation's annual gala on April 18, 2009.

The Sikh Centennial Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1997 to commemorate the centenary of Sikh settlement in Canada. The 2009 gala will honour exemplary Sikhs and non-Sikhs whose accomplishments deserve recognition.

A former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, the Honourable Frank Iacobucci was appointed a Companion in the Order of Canada in 2007. His distinguished career includes work in private practice, academia, government and the judiciary. He has been appointed to lead a number of government inquiries, including discussions toward a fair and lasting resolution of the legacy of Indian Residential Schools.

The Sikh Centennial Foundation lauds Mr. Iacobucci's "lifelong commitment to the principles of social justice and equality, which embody and guide the Sikh way of life."

Past honourees include Chief Justice Roy McMurtry of Ontario; Justice Wally Oppal, the current Attorney General of B.C.; humanitarians Stephen Lewis and June Callwood; Sarabjit Marwah, vice-chairman and COO Scotiabank; and Emanuel Sandhu, internationally ranked Canadian figure skater.
